How to receive free treatment in Lithuania if you are insured in another country

People legally working and paying social insurance contributions in any Member State of the European Union (EU Member State) are insured with social insurance in that EU Member State and are entitled to free health care in accordance to conditions established by legal acts of that EU Member State.

Regulations of the European Parliament and of the Council coordinating social security systems provide that person insured in one EU Member State is entitled to receive necessary healthcare or, in certain circumstances, planned treatment during a stay in another EU Member State. In addition, a person who is insured in one EU Member State but resides in another, is entitled to free healthcare in the country of residence. The state where the person is covered by social insurance is responsible for paying for these health care services. These rules are also applicable in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
