Inpatient services
Inpatient personal health care services are services that are provided to a patient during treatment in inpatient personal health care institutions, i.e. hospitals. These services are usually provided in hospitals for at least 24 hours. Inpatient services provided in hospitals can include: active treatment, long-term treatment, transplantation and rehabilitation.
Active treatment services are services provided to patients due to an acute illness, exacerbation of a chronic illness or injury. These services require examination and / or active medical and / or surgical treatment, which cannot be performed in an outpatient setting.
Long-term treatment services are services provided to patients with chronic diseases who require long-term (usually more than a month) treatment and / or care. These services include nursing and supportive care, tuberculosis, special psychiatry, long-term treatment of mental illness, etc.
Transplantation services are services that involve the transplantation of tissues, cells and / or organs from one person to another or to the same person for the purpose of treatment. Kidney, heart, liver, lung, heart and lung complex, pancreas and kidney complex, cornea, bone marrow transplants are performed.
Medical rehabilitation services are the application of rehabilitation measures (physiotherapy, kinesitherapy, occupational therapy, orthopaedic and technical aids, psychological assistance, medical treatment, training of patients and their relatives, dietary treatment, etc.) in order to maximize the restoration of impaired functions and in cases of irreversible changes, to compensate for them, or to maintain the achieved level of functional capacity. Illnesses and conditions in which rehabilitation services may be provided in an inpatient setting are approved by order of the Minister of Health.
In order for the inpatient services provided to a patient to be paid for from the budget of the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund, the following conditions are necessary: the patient must be covered by compulsory health insurance, have a doctor's referral and have a contract with a territorial health insurance fund. Referral from a doctor is optional if the patient seeks emergency medical attention. The scope of this assistance and the procedure for providing it are approved by a separate order of the Minister of Health. Inpatient personal health care services are provided in republican, regional, district hospitals and private personal health care institutions.
