Day surgery services

Day surgery services - are  scheduled personal health care services during which a curative and / or diagnostic intervention procedure is executed. Day surgery services are divided into one-day surgery service and extended care day surgery service.

One-day surgical service - a planned personal health care service, when a medical and / or diagnostic intervention procedure is performed on a patient who enters and leaves the institution on the same day. Extended care day surgery service - a planned personal health care service when a medical and / or diagnostic intervention procedure is performed and the total duration of the service does not exceed 24 hours.

Day surgery in Lithuania, as in other European countries, is becoming more popular for several reasons: the use of modern technologies (such as laparoscopy) significantly shortens the duration of the patient's treatment, reduces the risk of hospital infections. At the same time, the patient is not detached from his or her usual social environment and can continue treatment in a safe home environment.

Day surgery services are scheduled services and are provided only with a doctor's referral. Necessary tests must be performed on the patient before providing these services. The costs of these services are reimbursed according to the diagnosis-related group method.
