Ocular prosthesis
An ocular prosthesis is a prosthetic eye fitted to a person who has lost one or both eyes. For those covered by compulsory health insurance, the cost of an ocular prosthesis is reimbursed from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF). Prosthetic eyes are prescribed by a consilium of doctors from a healthcare institution that provides inpatient ophthalmology services of level III (if ocular prosthesis is performed for the first time). These prostheses may also be prescribed repeatedly by an ophthalmologist working in a secondary level healthcare institution providing ophthalmology outpatient services.
