Ukrainian war refugees introduced to guaranteed healthcare services in Lithuania
Invited by Šiauliai City Municipality, Experts of the health insurance funds, together with representatives of the Social Insurance Fund Board (Sodra), Employment Services and State Tax Inspectorate, participated at a meeting with Ukrainian citizens. At the meeting, representatives of Šiauliai Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF), talked about healthcare services in Lithuania and answered questions.
Ukrainians that came to Lithuania because of the war in their home country were interested in opportunities for not only the necessary, but also planned healthcare services, and asked if the health insurance applies to seniors and parents with disabled children.
Inga Kvedarienė, Head of the Population Service Division of Šiauliai THIF, and the head expert Regina Vitkauskienė reminded that all Ukrainian refugees of war, registered at the Migration Department, are assigned a certified electronic extract code, which is indicated in the certificate, issued by the Migration Department. With the said code, Ukrainian refugees of war receive the necessary medical assistance services in Lithuania free of charge.
THIF representatives explained that upon obtaining a Lithuanian temporary residence permit, declaring their place of residence and finding employment, which involves compulsory health insurance (CHI) payments, Ukrainian refugees of war in Lithuania can use not only the necessary medical assistance services, but all guarantees, offered by CHI. Ukrainians that have worked in Lithuania for at least six month or registered at the Employment Services, are also covered by CHI. Ukrainians cannot make CHI payments for themselves, unless they are self-employed.
The experts also noted that the Lithuanian CHI system is open to Ukrainian persons with disabilities and seniors that have a residence permit and documents to prove their retirement.
They are provided the same healthcare services as the CHI-covered Lithuanian citizens.
