The National Health Insurance Fund’s Backup Data Copy Stored in a High-Reliability Data Centre in Luxembourg
AB “Lietuvos televizijos ir radijo centras” (“Telecentras”) has provided the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) with a service for storing backup data copies in a data centre located abroad (within the EU).
The NHIF’s backup data copy is stored in one of the data centres in Luxembourg. The comprehensive service provided to the Health Insurance Fund by “Telecentras” includes data backup storage, colocation and secure data transmission solutions.
“The National Health Insurance Fund, which ensures the reimbursement of healthcare services and medicines for residents, manages and processes a very broad range of data related to Compulsory Health Insurance, including residents’ personal data concerning their health and medical treatment. Taking into account the nature and importance of this data, we decided this year to store one of our backup data copies in a remote data centre abroad,” says Eimantas Minkevičius, Head of the Information Systems Maintenance Division at the National Health Insurance Fund.
“Hosting data in data centres located in European Union Member States is a particularly important component in ensuring the security of data held by Lithuanian public institutions. Therefore, one of “Telecentras”’ strategic areas of activity and objectives is to provide public institutions with reliable data storage and business continuity solutions,” says Remigijus Šeris, Head of “Telecentras”. “We aim to ensure comprehensive public sector data security by combining the infrastructure we manage in Lithuania with the capabilities offered by data centres operated by reliable international partners.”
According to Ernestas Račkelis, Head of “Telecentras”’ ITT Services Division, the NHIF’s backup data copy is stored in a data centre owned by the State of Luxembourg. Its services are used by banks operating in Luxembourg, EU institutions, healthcare institutions and critical infrastructure operators.
The Luxembourg data centre selected by “Telecentras” has been awarded Tier IV certification. “This is the highest reliability rating for data centre infrastructure, confirming an exceptionally high level of resilience and operational continuity, as well as virtually uninterrupted service provision,” notes E. Račkelis.
