The health insurance funds: primary psychological help is free of charge
Every person may be in need of specialist psychological or psychiatric help, consultation in times of emotional crisis or everyday stress. On the World Mental Health Day, health insurance funds remind that emotional (psychological) help is available free of charge at mental health centres.
Costs for primary mental health care services are paid by Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF). Therefore, all patients, insured with compulsory health insurance, have the opportunity to choose an institution, providing primary mental health care in the territory of the municipality, which has concluded an agreement with the Territorial Health Insurance Fund, and to receive services reimbursed by the CHIF.
Mental health centres have medical teams consisting of a psychiatrist, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, a mental health nurse, a social worker and a medical psychologist. Complex professional healthcare services, including emotional support, are available if needed.
“There is no need to pay extra for the services provided - the health insurance funds pay the full cost of the service from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund. It is also important to know that the consultation must be booked in advance,” says Sonata Leščinskienė, head of the Control Division of Klaipėda Territorial Health Insurance Fund.
How do I sign in at a mental health facility?
Signing up at a mental health facility can be done either at the facility of your choice (which can be the facility where the patient’s family doctor works) or at a mental health centre. It is also possible to register electronically.
If you want to change your family doctor or a mental health centre, you can do so by submitting a request to the other healthcare provider of your choice. Upon request, the institution adds the person to the list of residents to be served by the newly selected institution. The patient’s medical record is transferred to the newly selected institution within 3 working days of receipt of the request.
