The Belarussian business is interested in the Lithuanian compulsory health insurance guarantees
Vilnius Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF) introduced the Lithuanian health system in the remote seminar organised by Tourism and Business Development Agency of Vilnius City "Go Vilnius" to the Belarussian company that is planning to transfer 300-500 employees and their family members to Vilnius.
Mrs. Lina Vitkauskiene, Head of Resident Servicing Department of Vilnius THIF, told to more than 70 participants of the seminar, how the Lithuanian health system is functioning, what guarantees are provided by the compulsory health insurance (CHI), and how the insured persons receive medical services funded from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF) in Lithuania.
The representative of Vilnius THIF explained the cases, when the foreign citizens are considered covered by CHI. The rules applicable to all the insured – Lithuanian and foreign citizens – were highlighted, including the most important rule – monthly payment of CHI contributions by employers or residents, unless they belong to the group of persons supported by the State.
The attention was drawn to the main conditions for getting CHIF funded medical services. The insured have to address the general practitioner in the medical institution, where they are subscribed to, for primary health care services, while they are referred to specialist doctors by GP. Moreover, in all the cases, it is necessary to address the medical institution that has a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund.
The insured may choose medical institutions and doctors according to their needs. The selection is wide – more than 70 medical institutions that have contracts with the National Health Insurance Fund are in Vilnius alone.
Similarly to CHI insured citizens, the guarantees of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are valid for foreigners insured in Lithuania and travelling in the European Union, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway. The expenses of necessary medical help are compensated to the card holders by the National Health Insurance. EHIC are issued to the insured by territorial health insurance funds free of charge.
The seminar's participants asked many questions about possibilities of CHI insurance for the family members of the Belarussian citizens insured (employed) in Lithuania. They were inquiring about differences between the services provided by medical institutions that have contracts with the National Health Insurance Fund and that have no such contracts, whether CHIF cover dental services, or what tests may be done by own choice. The questions about validity of prescriptions issued in Belarus and ability to get prescription -based medicines in Lithuania were raised.
Other Lithuanian institutions and companies presented the topics of migration, education, accommodation, taxes and other topics relevant for foreign citizens planning to work in Lithuania.
