Participation in preventive programs is encouraged even during quarantine
Deputy Director of the Šiauliai Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF), temporarily performing the functions of director, Dalia Miniauskienė presented the report “Implementation of preventive programs in Šiauliai THIF activities area in 2020” at the Community Health Council of Šiauliai City Municipality.
In her report, D. Miniauskienė emphasized the importance of preventive health programs and the fact that the insured persons with compulsory health insurance (CHI) are constantly invited to actively participate in these programs and prevent serious diseases in a timely manner. You can check your health free of charge by participating in five preventive programs: cervical, breast, prostate and colon cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
The rapporteur drew the attention of Šiauliai City Municipal Community Health Council members that the coronavirus pandemic significantly reduced the number of preventive inspections carried out last year. According to the data of Šiauliai Territorial Health Insurance Fund, 11 528 women participated in the cervical cancer prevention program in Šiauliai and Telšiai counties in 2020 — 32 percent less than in 2019, when 16,893 women participated in the program.
The Breast cancer preventive program in Šiauliai THIF activities area were attended by 10 189 women, who received services — 43.6 percent less than in 2019, when 18,059 women participated in the program. According to the program for early diagnosis of prostate cancer, 8,497 men were checked last year — 40% less than the year before that, when 14,036 men received services. Last year, 25 412 people participated in the colon cancer diagnostic program — 42 percent less than in 2019, when the number of participants was 13 431.
In 2020, 36 358 participants participated in the cardiovascular disease prevention program in Šiauliai and Telšiai counties, in 2019 — 48 220 persons, which makes the 2020 result 24.6 percent less than in 2019.
According to D. Miniauskienė's words, preventive programs are not limited or stopped even during the quarantine, so patients can contact their family doctor and undergo a checkup.
“I invite you not to delay your visit to your family doctor just because quarantine has not yet ended. It is not necessary to wait for the disease to progress, and it will be too late to diagnose it. We constantly remind the population to actively participate in preventive programs paid by the National Health Insurance Fund, during which researches allow to prevent the disease well ahead”, — said the rapporteur.
According to the National Health Insurance Fund, funding for preventive programs is increasing every year — 22 million euros were allocated to them in 2020 and 24.5 million euros this year.
