Medics urged to take more patients: more funding allocated
Residents have been asking health insurance funds if the limit of health care services has already been reached this year, making it impossible to get access to medical services. Experts of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) under the Ministry of Health assure that the provision of health care services both at clinics and hospitals cannot stop. All treatment institutions that have exceeded the contractual amount (the so-called quotas) for services will be paid for the services provided from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund.
According to the NHIF, a quarter of the Lithuanian health care institutions have been particularly active in providing services to patients in the first 9 months of this year and have already exceeded the contractual amounts for health care services. Currently, the amount exceeded already amounts to nearly 9 million euro. In some cases, the exceeded amount is not significant, in others – it amounts to several hundred thousand euro. Meanwhile, the contractual amounts for, for example, rehabilitation services, have already been exceeded by more than half of the institutions that offer them and the amount above the line is 1.6 million euro.
‘We would like to note that, during this pandemic, we must take all measures to ensure that patients receive all the necessary support. We urge the patients to refrain from delay or taking risks with their health and address the medics immediately upon need. At the same time, we ensure that all health care institutions that take more patients and thus, provide more services, will receive proper and timely remuneration.’ says Tatjana Golubajeva, the NHIF Deputy Director.
She also says that health insurance funds have currently informed all medical institutions in Lithuania, giving a detailed explanation on additional remuneration for services that exceed the contractual amounts. Thus, hopefully, health care institutions, understanding the increased demand for health care services among Lithuanian residents, will find ways to provide as many of them as possible this year.
‘Some health care institutions managed to provide more health care services than planned even under the extreme situation. Thus, good news for the hard-working – they will receive additional funds. However, this is also an invitation to other institutions to find ways to facilitate the burden of their patients and earn more.’ urges Golubajeva.
The provision of health care services was disrupted by the understandable reasons of the coronavirus pandemic. However, according to health care institutions, many of their services have already or nearly returned to the pre-pandemic level. The volume of medical services currently provided is nearly the same as in 2019.
