I don’t have a CHI: what should I do?

Health insurance funds receive inquiries from residents that have found out that their compulsory health insurance (CHI) has been terminated. They ask health insurance funds experts for assistance. Please be reminded that the insurance is terminated upon failure to make timely CHI payments or if the amount paid is smaller than indicated. In such case, citizens should immediately make the necessary payments.

Experts of Šiauliai Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF) would like to remind that the right to free medical treatment is inseparable from the monthly CHI payments. Thus, the monthly payment for the current month must be paid until the last day of the current month. Sometimes CHI payments contain errors in personal details, amount of payment or payment code. In these cases, although the CHI is made, they may be unaccounted, resulting in terminated CHI.

Should someone be provided with reimbursable health care services, medicine, medical assistance measures, they would have to cover both the debt for the CHI and the provided medical costs.

If someone’s CHI is terminated and they consult, e.g. a physician, the amount of the debt will not be very high. However, if the patient receives more or more complex health care services, the bill may amount to several hundred or even thousand euros. Surgeries and treatment of oncological and other chronic diseases are particularly expensive. A simple way to avoid that is to make one’s CHI payments on time.

All CHI payments must be made to Sodra’s banking accounts. The information on making payments and payment codes are available on Sodra’s website or by making a call to Sodra’s information centre. On the website, residents can also check if they have not fallen behind with their CHI payments: www.sodra.lt/pasitikrink.

You can also check your insurance status on the website of the Health Insurance Fund.
