Gytis Bendorius takes over as the Head of the National Health Insurance Fund
On 17 June, the Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkys introduced Gytis Bendorius, who won the competition for the position of the head of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), to the employees of the health insurance funds, at the same time expressing his gratitude to the former head Gintaras Kacevičius for his many years of work and his contributions to the organization’s activities, as well as for the significant role he had played in the projects of the WHO and international organizations.
While introducing a new head, the Minister of Health hoped that the tasks ahead of the health insurance funds on the consolidation process would go smoothly, as the organisation had been preparing for this change for several years.
“Medical science and structure of healthcare services change so rapidly that it requires sectors, forming health policy and executing it, to keep pace. The health insurance funds are challenged to come up with new methods of payment for services, methods of calculating fees, to find innovative solutions to improve the accessibility of services to Lithuanian patients,” the Minister listed the other tasks to the new head.
The director of the National Health Insurance Fund G. Bendorius states that by taking such responsibility, he is ready to put his energy and experience to work in an institution that is crucial to the health system and administers the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF).
“Without changing the focus, I would highlight several important lines of work, one of which is to ensure the importance of patients’ needs and to strive to ensure that compulsory health insurance brings the greatest possible benefit to the health of the residents. Another line is related to the important field of information technology, data openness and analysis, which can help to make optimal decisions to guarantee the financial sustainability of the health system,” G. Bendorius says.
