E.services provided by health insurance funds are becoming increasingly popular

Specialists of the Klaipėda Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF) note that more and more residents in this area of activity use electronic services developed by health insurance funds. It is especially popular to order European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) and certificates temporarily replacing them conveniently online.

The EHIC, issued free of charge by health insurance funds, guarantees its holder the necessary assistance in any country of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and the Swiss Confederation.

Last year, according to residents' requests online, over 7.2 thousand EHICs were ordered, when one year before, only about 2.4 thousand.

The popularity of certificates that temporarily replace EHICs that a person can order independently electronically has also increased since the beginning of last year. This electronic service appeared only recently - in 2020, but, according to statistics, has become a convenient, time-saving tool for the population.

Last year, in November, only 78 certificates were ordered, and in January 2021, the situation changed, the number of orders almost tripled to 233. Since the beginning of last year, 3.3 thousand certificates temporarily replacing the EHIC have been issued. Residents formed them and downloaded them online on their own.

The health insurance funds remind you that if you intend to go to an EU, EEA country, the United Kingdom or the Swiss Confederation for a short time, you can order an EHIC for yourself and your minor family members. If you no longer have time for this, a certificate can be generated that will temporarily replace the card. This can be done electronically by logging in to https://e.vlk.lt system.

On the EHIF website, visitors can also check:
•    whether they are covered by compulsory health insurance;
•    find out information about treatment and medicines.
