Crystalline Lens Replacement Surgery
The crystalline lens replacement surgery is the surgery performed for the patient, who has CHIF, when the transparent lens is replaced by the artificial one. In order to get the service paid (at least partially) by CHIF, the patient has to refer to the medical institution that has the contract with the territorial health insurance fund, for the crystalline lens replacement surgery.
If vision disorders appear, the patient has to refer to the general practitioner at first. The GP will assess the vision and, if necessary, will refer the patient for consultation of ophthalmologist. This specialist doctor will examine the vision thoroughly and, if necessary, will prescribe tests and treatment. If the ophthalmologist diagnosis cataract (usually for older persons), the surgery may be needed to replace the transparent lens by the artificial one.
The doctor in charge of treatment has to provide the information important for the person, who is going to have the crystalline lens replacement surgery. Free surgery and crystalline lens have to be offered to the patient with CHIF, first of all. The basic price of the surgery is covered by CHIF. The price of the crystalline lens is included into this price; thus, the patient does not need to pay for it.
If the patient wishes to have more expensive lens recommended by the doctor in charge of treatment implanted than the one offered in the institution, the patient does not need to pay the total price of the lens to the institution, but simply a difference between the prices of the chosen lens and the lens covered by CHIF.
