Health insurance funds have completed the signing of contracts: almost 3 billion distributed
The National Health Insurance Fund announces that it has finalised contracts with medical institutions. This year, 781 medical institutions will provide healthcare services to the Lithuanian population paid for by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund. This time, the Health Insurance Funds have allocated EUR 2.78 billion to the medical institutions. The amount of funds allocated for the implementation of contracts is 9.1% more than last year’s contracts and 5.8% more than what was actually paid for the services provided by the healthcare institutions last year.
“As part of our assessment of the need for healthcare services and in order to ensure maximum accessibility to services for the population, this year we have decided to allocate an additional amount of almost EUR 26 million to increase the planned contractual amounts. This decision is one of the measures we are taking in response to the real need for medical services throughout the country,” says Gytis Bendorius, Director of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
Primary outpatient personal health care will be provided to patients this year by 383 institutions and their sub-branches. This year’s contracts from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund provide for EUR 552 million - 14.2% more than the amount paid for services provided last year.
This year’s contracts for doctors’ consultations, day impatient, day surgery and other outpatient services, as well as nursing and inpatient services, are set to cost EUR 1.8 billion - 4.1% more than last year.
A number of inpatient service groups remain and will continue to be prioritised this year. These include oncology, complex cardiology and cardiac surgery, endoprosthetics and surgery for multiple trauma, inpatient services for childbirth, stroke and myocardial infarction. This year EUR 134 million has been allocated for these services, but if more are provided, they will all be covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund.
Outpatient and inpatient services will be available in 516 facilities. Of these, 61 will provide inpatient services, 85 will offer day surgery services, 131 will offer day inpatient services and 492 will offer specialist consultations. Inpatient nursing care will be provided by 100 facilities and outpatient home care by 161 facilities.
This year’s contracts for medical rehabilitation and sanatorium treatment services are planned at EUR 162 million. 171 institutions are planning to provide various medical rehabilitation services to the population.
An additional EUR 69.8 million is foreseen for five preventive health programmes. These are expected to be actively used by the population.
Of the 781 institutions that will provide reimbursed services this year, 193 are public and 588 are private institutions and their branches. All health care institutions and services contracted with the Health Insurance Funds throughout Lithuania can be conveniently found in the Health Insurance Funds’ interactive search engine.
