On 14-18 November this year, Lithuania was visited by a delegation from the State Agency for Compulsory Health Insurance of Azerbaijan. The visit was organised under the EU twinning project 'Strengthening mandatory health insurance mechanisms in Azerbaijan (Phase 2)’.

Since November is a Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the health insurance funds have been reminding of the prostate cancer prevention programme, offered in Lithuania, inviting men to contact their general practitioners for a free health check-up.

The flu vaccines for the 2022-2023 flu season have been successfully distributed among all Lithuanian healthcare institutions. The National Health Insurance Fund under the Ministry of Health is urging the risk groups to get their free flu shot and protect themselves and their nearest and dearest.

Panevėžys Educational Centre hosted the second meeting between representatives of the health insurance funds and Ukrainian citizens that had to leave their country due to the military action of the Russian Federation.

Considering the public initiative and upon consulting professional obstetrician-gynaecologists, the Ministry of Health enabled to choose a caesarean section instead of natural birth in case of reproductive function disorders or in the presence of certain risk factors.

Invited by Šiauliai City Municipality, Experts of the health insurance funds, together with representatives of the Social Insurance Fund Board (Sodra), Employment Services and State Tax Inspectorate, participated at a meeting with Ukrainian citizens.

Residents are already well-aware that everyone covered by the compulsory health insurance and having a referral can pick any institution for their qualified expert medical services, testing and procedures, as long as the institution has an agreement with the health insurance funds.

The Breast Health Day on 15 October approaches and the President Dalia Grybauskaitė, together with the NHIF urges the Lithuanian women to be more active in taking care of their health and go for periodic check-ups under the breast cancer prevention programme, funded from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund.

The Ministry of Health initiated changes for supportive care and nursing service requirements that are coming into force as of October. This will enable to ensure a better quality of inpatient care.

From now on, patients in pain due to oncological diseases can rent and use an infusion pump, covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund, much easier. The new infusion pump prescription procedure is already in force, says the National Health Insurance Fund under the Ministry of Health.

Recognising the World Mental Health Day, the health insurance funds are drawing attention to the irrational use of sedatives as one of the most relevant mental health issues. The Committee of Medicines, operating at Šiauliai Territorial Health Insurance Fund, is warning that irrational use of sedatives may result in addiction.
